She was a sports reporter for some of the biggest media outlets across the United States. It was a long time at The Washington Post covering football and basketball as well as multiple Olympics and Grand Slam Tennis. Nichols was a reporter for nine years during her time with ESPN in which she won the two Emmy Awards, and featured on many of ESPN's top programs like NFL Countdown and SportsCenter. The Monday Night Football coverage as a team reporter was part of her work at the network. Her next assignment was CNN and Turner Sports. Unguarded was a program that she created and hosted was telecast every one week at CNN International. Over 1 billion viewers saw it on the air worldwide. Nichols covered NBA television broadcasts for TNT as well as the playoffs, regular season and all-star broadcasts. Nichols also worked for TBS covering baseball and golf broadcasts as well as Final Four broadcasts on CBS. It is the only nomination in 42 years of the honor for a female from the more than 200 nominees contenders.
